Learn who is eligible for state disability and family/medical leave programs.

If you work and/or live in one of the states listed below that offer state disability insurance or paid family/medical leave, you will need to file for state benefits in addition to filing for short-term disability benefits through The Hartford.

If you are eligible for pay through a state-issued disability insurance or leave benefit, The Hartford assumes you are receiving state disability benefits and will offset (reduce) your short-term disability pay by the amount you are expected to receive from the state.

You are responsible to:

  • Review the information provided on your state’s website.
  • If you live in CA, CO, CT, DC, MA, OR, RI or WA, file the requested documents with the state in addition to filing with The Hartford.
  • If you live in HI, NJ or NY, you apply for short-term disability benefits and state benefits through The Hartford.
