Learn who is eligible for state disability and family/medical leave programs.

If you work in one of the states listed below that offer state disability insurance or paid family/medical leave, you will need to file for state benefits. If you are on Company-provided short-term disability (STD), you will also need to file for short-term disability benefits through The Hartford. File for benefits through The Hartford at The Hartford online claim portal or call 855-532-7881.

If you are eligible for pay through a state-issued disability insurance or leave benefit, The Hartford assumes you are receiving state disability benefits and will offset (reduce) your short-term disability pay by the amount you are expected to receive from the state.

You are responsible to:

  • Review the information provided on your state’s website.
  • If you work in CA, CO, CT, DC, MA, OR, RI or WA, file the requested documents with the state in addition to filing with The Hartford.
  • If you work in HI or NJ, you apply for short-term disability benefits and state temporary disability insurance (TDI) benefits through The Hartford. For HI Family Leave Law and NJ Family Leave Insurance, you apply for benefits through the state.
  • If you work in NY, you apply for short-term disability benefits and state Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) benefits through the Hartford.
