Transcarent is a benefit that connects associates and family members enrolled in a BCI medical plan with top-rated facilities and surgeons for non-emergency surgeries.

If you’re enrolled in the PPO or EPO plan, your surgery is covered 100% when you go through Transcarent – you pay nothing. If you’re in the HSA plan, you pay nothing once you have met your deductible for the year.

For some specific types of surgeries, you are required to go through Transcarent for your procedure to be covered by insurance. For non-required procedures, you do not have to use Transcarent, but you may be able to save money since a Transcarent procedure may be covered 100% depending on your medical plan.

Benefits for you

  • Cost: With Transcarent, EPO and PPO members pay $0 for any designated surgical procedures. Per IRS rules, HSA participants must first meet the annual deductible. In addition, travel expenses for you and a companion will be covered if a local surgeon is not an option, and travel over 100 miles is required.
  • Experience: Your dedicated Care Coordinator is there to help you find the right surgical provider, schedule your surgery, understand your benefits, and manage billing and paperwork.
  • Quality: Transcarent takes special measures to ensure the care you get is the care you can trust, hand-selecting surgery partners because they meet or exceed quality standards and are among the top-ranked in the nation.
  • Access: Receive fast access to top-rated facilities and surgeons specializing in your procedure.

Which procedures are covered through Transcarent

You must use Transcarent for the following surgeries:

  • Orthopedic surgeries – knee, hip, shoulder
  • Spine surgeries
  • Bariatric surgeries

Spine, knee, hip, shoulder, or bariatric surgery may only be covered when accessed through Transcarent. Some exceptions apply for members in Boise, ID and Lubbock TX where we are still developing our best-in-class provider network. If you have questions, please contact a Transcarent Care Coordinator. If you do not schedule your surgery with Transcarent (or obtain a waiver for members in Boise, ID or Lubbock, TX), your medical plan will not cover the cost of your surgery.

  • Cardiac surgeries
  • Specific cancer surgeries
  • General surgeries
  • Women’s health surgeries
  • Vascular surgeries

If travel is required

If travel of over 100 miles (one way) from your primary residence is required to get you to a top surgeon for your procedure, travel expenses are covered for you and a companion, including:

  • Airfare
  • Lodging (one double occupancy room)
  • Meals and incidentals allowance
    • $50 per day for the patient when not admitted (days 1-14)
    • $50 per day for a companion (days 1-14)
    • $125 per week per person after 14 days (days 15+)

To receive this benefit, airfare and lodging must be arranged by your Care Coordinator. Any travel companion must be at least 18 years of age. You’ll receive a payroll check to cover your meals and incidentals incurred during this period.
